About

Hi! My name is…

Afonso! (That’s me on the left/top)

I’m a software developer by trade and a moron by heart. This is my website, where I share all kinds of cool stuff.

My Career

I’ve graduated from Técnico Lisboa, holding a bachelor in Information Systems and Computer Engineering. While I was a student, I also worked developing FenixEdu, an open-source project that provides learning and content management systems for higher education institutions.

After my last student days, I was fortunate enough to work at CERN, one of the coolest places in the universe! I’ve done quite a lot here, from helping create a data warehouse for the administrative data to developing tools for simplifying the management of business intelligence services. I’m my last role there, I was part of the team that manages the software responsible for intervention management, site management, visits to CERN and the CERN Hostel (did you know CERN operates the largest hotel in Geneva?).

Since then, I moved back to Portugal and started working at Mercedes-Benz.io. We’re the tech arm of the world’s oldest car manufacturer and our goal is to have the best digital experience in the industry for our customers. I am part of the team responsible for the search field on all of the Mercedes-Benz websites. It’s called FSS, and I should definitively tell you more about it.
